Site Name: Kamizakaiasahidai Shell Mound 上境旭台貝塚
Time Period: Late Jomon 4000 yrs ago
Object: Lacquerware Bowl
Why is this interesting/important? The bowl wasn’t the only thing uncovered during this excavation, but it is really stunning. The painted designs on the inside of the bowl are something you really don’t see. This isn’t a case of the oldest, biggest, first (insert object) found, but rather an opportunity to really enjoy a beautiful, ancient piece of art.
